Becoming a Member
In order to become a member of the Association, an individual must
apply for membership on an official application form, either in
hard-copy format or online at www.naifa.com
and pay the annual
Chapter and National dues.
The annual Portland Rose City Chapter dues are $100.
The annual National dues are indicated by the various Member Types.
A chapter personal and application
interview is required at the monthly meeting
following the date of the application. The
personal review involves your commitment to
the NAIFA and the PRCIFA. Upon the
acceptance of personal and application
review, the access information and
documentation for the chapter programs and
data services will be given.

Member Types
Affiliate – ($195 per year)
Affiliates are persons engaged in or interested in real estate
appraising but are not state licensed appraisers or state
certified appraisers, and do not have a recognized appraisal
designation. Affiliate members shall be permitted to refer
to affiliate membership when requested to do so for employment
purposes and in qualification in appraisal reports only in
the following manner: “Affiliate Member – National
Association of Independent Fee Appraisers.”
Associate – ($245 per year)
Associates are persons in fields related to real estate
appraising but who are not practicing appraisers. The Associate
may, at a later date, elect to become a candidate, and
providing all membership criteria is met, elevate to a
designated status.
Candidate – ($325 first year ($275 dues + $50 initiation fees); $375 second year)
Candidates are persons engaged in or interested in real estate appraising
but are non-designated members. Candidate members shall be permitted to refer
to candidate membership when requested to do so for employment purposes
and in qualifications in appraisal reports only in the following
manner: “Candidate Member – National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers.”
Member – (Annual dues of $475)
There are four designations in this category: IFA, IFAS, IFAA and IFAC.
All designated members have met the criteria of the National Association of
Independent Fee Appraisers to hold their particular designation.
ADP – (Annual dues of $475)
Appraisers that have met the requirements of other associations that
are members of the Appraisal Foundation and have the same stringent criteria
as the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. The level of
designation will be equalized, i.e. a residential designation from another
organization will earn an IFA; a commercial designation will earn an IFAS, etc.
IFA Designation. Requirements are to complete and have accepted a
membership application, and:
- Meet the current education and experience requirements set by
the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) for “Certified Residential
Real Property Appraiser”, or “Certified General Real Property Appraiser”,
or the equivalent thereof. Currently be a Certified Residential Real Property
Appraiser, or the equivalent thereof, or pass the IFA Comprehensive Examination.
- Have at least three (3) years experience, submit two (2) sample
appraisal reports, and complete the experience rating form.
- Submit a demonstration Self-Contained Appraisal Report that
communicates a Complete Appraisal of a one (1) to four (4) unit
residential property.
- Submit evidence of a four (4) year college degree, or
the equivalent thereof.
- Submit evidence of completing the following NAIFA
courses: 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 5.0, and the NAIFA Ethics
Course, or the equivalent thereof.

In order to continue and further the prestigious
standing of members of the National Association of Independent
Fee Appraisers, all reports including demonstration reports
must comply with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal
Practice (USPAP), and with NAIFA Standards established by the
Board of Directors of NAIFA.
